Welcome to the SLS Home page (Site updated to 5 May 2008) 

The SLS (Stephenson Locomotive Society), founded in 1909, is the premier society for the study of railways and railway locomotion. The SLS has an extensive railway related library; publishes railway books, the SLS Journal and items from its photographic and drawings collection; organises local meetings and events; Custodian of 1/6 scale LNWR built locomotive Orion; has its own railway archive material in museums. Further railway and SLS information is available on the attached pages.  This section covers information about the SLS which is of relevance to railway modellers and film makers etc.  The SLS even has an on-line electronic jig saw puzzle based on an item from the SLS Photographic Archive.

Four Societies joint working initiative

A Working Party of members of The Locomotive Club of Great Britain, The Railway Club, The Railway Correspondence and Travel Society and the The Stephenson Locomotive Society have been assessing ways in which joint collaberation can benefit the four societies.  Their report has now been finalised and various proposals will be taken forward. Issues relevant to the SLS will be  followed through.  (Added 29 Mar 2008)
