14 March (Saturday): Centenary Talk (Public event)
Midland Centre - Kidderminster Railway Museum. 14:15 Edward Talbot on 'The Premier Line 1909' and ANO on 'The WCML Today'.
This is being organised in our centenary year by the London and Southern Area. With the Society's early roots deeply enmeshed in the LB&SC Railway and the preservation of locomotive Gladstone a "Brighton line" theme is being adopted for the 2009 AGM (meeting date Sat 25th April 2009). The preliminary arrangements are for the AGM weekend to be centered around the Bluebell Railway with the meeting itself at Sheffield Park Station. Additional details will be circulated to members through the Journal as the elements are finalised.
9 May (Saturday): Midland Centre - Centenary Trip (Members only);
Midland Centre - Buffet at Kidderminster Railway Museum at 12.00 noon followed by a run to Bridgnorth, SVR on an SLS Special (reserved seats on normal train, carriage 'next to the engine'). NB: if you wish to come to the Centenary buffet and/or trip on 9 May, please let Roger Hennessey know by 2nd April at the latest, see front page of the Journal for address, etc.

The details of this weekend are still very much work in progress. However the intention is to round off our year of celebration with a mix of public and members only events so that we start our second century ian appropriate style at the National Railway Museum in York; home of two locomotives associated with the SLS (Gladstone & Stephenson). Our locomotive Orion is also expected to be on display. As with the AGM weekend additional details will be circulated to members through the Journal as the elements are finalised. |
